Once you have registered a domain name with the .be extension with WebSelf, you (as the domain registrant) must first validate the domain with DNS Belgium in order for it to be activated.
Since November 2020, the registry (DNS Belgium) has been verifying the identity of registrants in cases of suspicious registrations. The registry performs this verification before domain name activation to stop potentially fraudulent registrations and prevent domain names from causing harm.
When the registry finds that the registrant's data is incomplete or incorrect, it temporarily delegates the registrations to DNS Belgium's name servers, so the domains are registered but not yet active. The domain's URL points to a page containing the verification message details. In the verification message, the registry asks the registrant to prove their identity. The registrant provides the registry with the required documentation to confirm their identity. Once the registry has received and approved the proof of identity, the domain is activated.
To validate your domain name:
Go to: https://www.dnsbelgium.be/en/registrant-verification.
In the "Verify your data online" window, enter the domain name, without the .be extension.
- Click the "Request verification" button.
- The request is automatically sent to the email address registered for the domain.
- Confirm the received request.
- Your domain name will be activated.
IMPORTANT:
Since March 2023, all domain owners can verify their contact information online and are no longer required to send identification documents by email.
The domain owner is responsible for completing the validation directly on the DNS Belgium website. Verification is done automatically using Itsme or eID.
