Revealing your terms of agreement, privacy agreement, shipping and payment information, as well as the refund policy, is essential when managing an online business.
You can integrate all the legal pages and guidelines you require into your shop. This way, patrons can peruse this information whenever they wish. You can also explicitly request buyers to approve your legal documents at checkout before completing their purchase.
Note:
It’s strongly advised to verify your shop policies with legal professionals before including legal pages on your shop.

Incorporating legal pages into your shop
You can generate the following legal pages in your shop:
- Terms & Conditions
- Privacy Policy
- Shipping & Payment Information
- Return Policy
- About Us
If you require any other documents, just rename the page when adding it.
There are two ways to append legal texts to your shop. First, you can create texts in your shop admin using the built-in editor. In this case, they are published on dedicated pages inside your shop just as you design them. Second, you can add a link to an external URL. For instance, if you already have a page with legal information established on your custom website.
Note:
If your shop is multilingual, you can add legal pages in multiple languages.
To add legal pages to your shop:
- From your shop admin, proceed to Settings → Legal.
-
Scroll down to the Legal pages and policies section:
- Click Add Page beside the necessary legal page.
-
Based on how you want to append legal texts to your shop, choose your option:
- If you prefer to create your legal document in shop admin, click Insert page content and enter your text.
-
If you already possess a page with your legal information elsewhere on the web, click Modify page title and address and complete the Web address for… field. Ensure the URL to the external page with your legal information commences with https://
Note:
If you append an external URL, legal page contents inputted in the shop admin will be disregarded. Any links to this legal page in your shop will redirect to your URL.
- (optional) In the Page settings section, assign another title for your page (e.g., rename "Confidentiality Policy" to "Cookie Policy").
- Click Save.
That’s it! You’ve integrated a legal page into your shop. Now links to it will be exhibited at the bottom of your shop’s customer email notifications, in client accounts, and will be automatically appended to your website footer. You can also display links to legal pages at your shop checkout to request customers to consent to them.
Note:
If you’re vending on a custom website and you’ve appended legal page content in your shop admin, you can obtain links to these pages to include in your website menu.
Requesting customers to consent to legal pages at checkout
You can insert a special checkbox in your cart so that customers are able to view your legal documents at checkout and agree with them before placing an order.
To prompt customers to agree with your legal pages at checkout:
- From your shop admin, go to Settings → Legal.
- Scroll down to the Customers’ agreement section.
- Activate the Require consent to terms and conditions at checkout toggle.
That’s it! Now your customers will encounter a dedicated checkbox at checkout with all your shop’s legal pages listed:
Customers can click each link to read the text prior to providing consent. Legal page contents will be opened as popup windows. In case you’ve specified an external URL when adding a legal page to your shop, the link will open in a new tab.
Concealing legal pages from your shop
Although deleting already added legal pages is not possible, you can hide a legal page from your shop. For instance, if you need to update its content or no longer require the page.
To hide a legal page from your shop:
- Access your shop admin and go to Settings → Legal.
- Scroll down to the Legal pages and policies section.
-
Disable the toggle next to the desired legal page:
That’s it! Links to this legal page will no longer be visible in your shopfront or your shop’s notifications.
You can always re-enable the page later if needed.
Which legal pages do you need
The legal pages you require and the content they display depend on your business and the laws and regulations in your country. We recommend seeking professional legal advice regarding this.
Here are some examples of legal page content:
Terms and Conditions
Or simply T&C. This document explains the rules for using your site/store.
Return Policy
This document specifies your terms for refunds and product returns.
Privacy Policy
You need to inform your customers about the information your shop collects and how it will be used. Customers want to know if their personal data will be shared with third parties or used for newsletters. By providing a clear explanation on this matter, you can increase trust among your customers. This is also mandated by laws in some countries – for example, by GDPR in Europe.
The Privacy Policy outlines what information is collected through your website and shop. This may include:
- Use of cookies
- How you handle personal information (emails, addresses, names, etc.)
- Whether this information is shared with any third party and, if so – for what purpose, etc.
Shipping and Payment Info
The shipping info page explains your delivery policy and may include the following details:
- Items eligible for shipment
- Regions to which you ship your goods
- Delivery terms
- Estimated shipping time and cost
- How you handle returns
The payment info page should address all possible questions about payment methods in your shop.
There are various online tools available for generating templates for privacy policies, terms of service, etc. You can use such services to create content for your legal pages that is standardized and up to date – for example, https://termsfeed.com, http://www.iubenda.com.
