Order quantity limits enable you to define the minimum and/or maximum quantity of a product available per order. For instance, you may require customers to purchase a minimum of 3 croissants at your bakery, or restrict the purchase of event tickets to a maximum of 10 per person to prevent resale.
You can set order quantity limits for individual products and product variations in your store.

Setting order quantity limits for products
An item with order quantity limits can have both minimum and maximum limits, or only one of them, depending on your needs.
To set order quantity limits for a product:
- From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
- Open the product you want to edit.
- Find the Stock Control block on the right.
- Click Manage stock control.
- (optional) Enable stock tracking by entering the number of items you have in stock.
- Click Set purchase quantity limits to specify the minimum and/or maximum quantity allowed for purchase:
- Save the changes.
That’s it! Order quantity limits are now set for this product in your store.
By default, the order quantity limit values for product variations mirror the values you set for the base product. Therefore, when you set order quantity limit values for your product, the same values are automatically applied to all its variations upon creation. You can set individual order quantity limit values for your variations if you need.
Note:
To speed up catalog setup, specify order quantity limits for products and variations in bulk.
Setting order quantity limits for product variations
You can set separate minimum and maximum order quantity limit values for each of the variations your product has. Otherwise, they'll inherit the limits from the base product.
Note:
If your product doesn't have variations, or you want to maintain identical order quantity limits for all variations, you only need to set the limit values for the product itself.
After you add order quantity limits for individual variations, customers will see values for the default product variation when viewing product pages in your store.
When customers select a specific variation on the product details page, the order quantity limit values will be adjusted accordingly. If your product does not have a default product variation, the order quantity limit values for the base product are displayed initially.
Note:
Variations must have unique SKUs before you assign individual order quantity limits to them.
To set order quantity limits for a product variation:
- From your store admin, go to Catalog → Products.
- Сhoose a product or create a new one.
- Go to the Options → Variations tab.
- Click Manage in the Stock column next to the variation.
- (optional) Enable stock tracking by entering the number of items you have in stock.
- Click Set purchase quantity limits to specify the minimum and/or maximum quantity allowed for purchase.
- Click OK, then Save.
That’s it! You’ve added order quantity limit value(s) for an individual product variation.
Now when a customer selects this variation on the product page, they will see the order quantity limit information for it.
How quantity limits work for customers
After you set minimum and/or maximum order quantity limits for a product, customers will see a corresponding notice on the product details page in your store. If a customer tries to add to cart more or fewer units of a product than the limit allows, they will see an error message:
The same principle applies to the checkout process. While in the cart, a customer won't be able to adjust the number of ordered items to a quantity that doesn't comply with your specified limits.
If you track inventory for a product or variation and it’s currently in stock, but its quantity is less than the minimum quantity allowed for purchase, then the item will appear as “Out of stock” on the storefront, and customers won’t be able to buy it.
