Alongside physical and digital products, you can offer gift cards in your shop. When activated, your clients can purchase a digital gift card for any specified amount and receive it via email. Any purchase containing a gift card must have a payment status of Confirmed before the card is dispatched.
Upon receiving a notification email with the gift card details, the recipient has the option to forward this email to the intended recipient. The recipient can then utilize the gift card to make purchases in your store until the entire card cher balance is spent or the card expires (whichever comes first).

Activating and deactivating gift cards
To begin offering gift cards:
- From your shop's admin panel, navigate to Catalog → Gift cards
- Click on Create Gift Card.
- Follow the step-by-step guide: Either click Create Gift Card to start offering cards with recommended settings or select Edit settings.
- If you offer a gift card with different amounts, choose the one that will be displayed by default in your storefront.
Note: You can only have one gift card in a store. But you can set up different gift card amounts for customers to choose from.
Once a gift card is activated, it will be listed alongside your other products in your shop's admin panel under Catalog → Products.
Below is an example of a gift card with default settings on the shop's front end:
You can customize gift cards either during the setup process or at any time later from your shop's admin panel under Catalog → Gift cards. Here are the aspects you can modify in your gift cards:
- Title. Keep the title straightforward and understandable for customers and search engines.
- Values. Gift cards come with preset values. When adding a new value, ensure it is not less than the average product price in your shop.
- Visual. You have the option to upload an image that reflects your brand's style. This image will be displayed on the front end. For email notifications, a different image is used — to alter this image, you'll need to adjust the email template.
- Description. Include information that customers should be aware of regarding gift cards in your shop, such as the expiration period.
- Categories. Gift cards will be visible on the category pages you select. To showcase them on the shop's homepage, designate the storefront page.
- Expiration. By default, gift cards have no expiration date. You can modify this in Catalog → Gift cards → Card Expiration. Ensure compliance with the regulations of the regions where you operate, as setting an expiration date may be prohibited in certain jurisdictions.
Additionally, you can include the gift card icon in your shop's footer menu for easy access by customers at any time. If you wish to provide customers with a direct link to the gift card product page in your shop, you can copy the link directly from the admin panel.
Additional considerations:
- Customers cannot apply more than one card per order.
- Discount coupons are ineligible for use in card purchases. If a customer applies a coupon code to an order, the discount applies to all items except the card itself.
- Cards cannot be used to purchase another card .
- Cards are exempt from taxes at the point of purchase, as taxes are levied when customers add specific items to their cart and subsequently redeem the card. The precise tax amount depends on various factors such as the products in the order, shipping address, and chosen shipping/delivery methods.
- Due to Facebook's Terms of Use, cards cannot be promoted or shared on Facebook or Instagram.
To cease offering gift cards:
- From your shop's admin panel, go to Catalog → Gift cards.
- Change the status to Inactive.
An inactive gift card will no longer be visible on the front end, but it will remain in your catalog with all its settings, allowing you to easily reactivate it later if needed. Previously issued gift cards can still be redeemed.
Acquiring and utilizing gift cards as a consumer
Following their purchase, your client receives an email containing a distinctive card code and detailed instructions on its usage. The subject line of the email reads "Your card is ready". This email is automatically dispatched to the customer's email address as soon as the order achieves a "Confirmed" status.
Subsequently, your customer can forward the email or share the card link via SMS or messenger. By clicking the "View card" button in the email, a customer can acquire the link. The linked page contains all necessary information: a redirection link to your store where the card can be applied, the current card balance, and instructions on its utilization.
Here's an illustration of a card email:
The card recipient can utilize it to settle payment for any items in your store. To redeem it, they need to input the card code from the email into the designated field during checkout. This field automatically appears in your store upon configuring a card.
A card can be utilized across multiple orders until its entire value is exhausted. Customers can monitor the remaining balance by clicking the "View card " button in the email or after applying a card during checkout:
If the total order amount exceeds the card value, the customer must settle the remaining balance using alternative payment methods available in your store.
To create and provide a customer with a free gift card:
- Enable any offline payment method in your store to bypass the need for actual payment.
- Go to your storefront, add a gift card to your cart, and proceed to checkout.
- Locate the order in your store admin and change the order status to "Paid." Since you used an offline payment method, the order will be listed as "Awaiting payment," and the gift card will only be sent once the order status is updated to "Paid."
- Retrieve the gift card email from your inbox.
You can either resend or forward the email to the customer, or simply send the gift card code via any messaging app.
