If you market items that have variations like shades and dimensions, you can present them as one core product with choices. This approach allows store visitors to pick preferences on the product page conveniently.
Using product choices, you can also:
- provide add-ons, such as special packaging;
- offer multiple options for customizing or personalizing the product;
- incorporate price adjustments to raise or lower product prices based on selection, and more.
The choices made by customers are detailed in the order specifics as well as in your store’s alerts and invoices.

Available types of options
The following types of options are accessible in your store:
- Drop-Down list allows picking one value from various choices. We recommend selection boxes for a concise display of numerous choices.
- Radio Buttons permit choosing one value from various choices such as product hue or packaging type.
- Size enable selecting one alternative from multiple size choices.
- Checkboxes enable the selection of multiple options at once. For instance, you can utilize them when providing extras like toppings for pizza.
Creating options
You can integrate an infinite number of alternatives to each product to assist customers in selecting a product they fancy. For instance, if you wish to display all the dimensions and materials an item is available in, incorporate a special wrapping choice, or provide additional topping options for pizzas.
To integrate choices into a product:
- Access your shop's administration panel, then navigate to Catalog→ Products.
- Open the specific product you want to modify or create a new one.
- Proceed to the Options section:
- Click on Add Product Options to introduce a choice and its specifications.
- Specify the name of the choice (e.g., "Toppings").
- From the drop-down menu labeled Option type, select the appropriate type of choice. In our instance, for pizza toppings, it’s “Checkboxes”:
- In the field labeled Option values, specify the initial value for this choice. In the scenario with toppings, it could be “Pepperoni”.
- Click on +Add Value and include all other values for the choice. In our scenario, we’ll list all the available toppings.
- (optional) Hover over the value of the choice and click on Add price adjustment to define how this choice impacts the base product price.
- (optional, not applicable for checkboxes) Click on the drop-down menu labeled Value automatically selected to choose if any value should be preselected. By default, customers are required to manually select an option.
- (optional) Click on the six dots positioned to the left of the choice value's name to rearrange the values via drag-and-drop.
- Save your modifications.
Repeat the above steps to include additional choices (such as hues) if necessary.
Here's how a product with various choices appears on the store's front end:
Setting default options values
When creating drop-down lists, radio buttons, and size choice types, you have the ability to define default choice values (such as the most popular size for this pizza) that will be automatically selected for quicker customer checkout. If a shopper desires to order a product with different choices (such as alternate sizes), they must manually select them on the product page instead of relying on the default options.
To set a default choice value:
- Access your shop's administrative panel, then navigate to Catalog → Products.
- Open the product you wish to modify.
- Proceed to the Options section and click on a choice.
- Scroll down and click on the Value selected automatically drop-down menu.
- Choose your desired option:
- Save your changes.
That’s it! Upon visiting a product page, customers will see default choice values highlighted and automatically selected:
Making option values mandatory
When creating drop-down lists, radio buttons, and size choice types, you can make it obligatory for customers to select a choice. This ensures that no choices are preselected upon opening a product page, and a customer cannot add the item to the cart without specifying a value.
- Access your shop's administrative panel, then navigate to Catalog → Products.
- Open the product you wish to modify.
- Proceed to the Options section and click on a choice.
- Scroll down and click on the Value selected automatically drop-down menu.
- Select the None. Require customers to select option:
- Save your changes.
Here's an example of how customers are prompted to select choices after clicking the Add to Bag button:
Setting varied prices for options
Using price adjustments, you can raise or lower the base product price based on choices. For instance, a basic pizza costs $11.95, and each additional topping adds $0.85 to the price. If a customer selects one topping, they will see the updated price ($12.80) on the product page, and if they choose two toppings, the price will be $13.65.
To incorporate price modifiers:
- Access your shop's administrative panel, then navigate to Catalog → Products.
- Open the product you wish to modify.
- Proceed to the Options section and click on a choice.
- Hover over the choice value and click on Add price modifier:
- Choose whether the modification adjusts the price by an absolute amount or as a percentage:
- Specify the amount. You can input positive or negative values.
- Save your changes.
That's all! You've successfully incorporated price modifiers for your choice values.
Here's how modifiers may appear to customers on your storefront. The price adjusts instantly when they select a choice:
